i know this is me being unreasonable, a buzzkill, thinking too much, whatever. i have made what peace i can with that.
but i cant ignore that i am increasingly losing respect for any canadian, any nonamerican really, who still regularly engages with let alone travels to (for fun!) the united states
yeah i know where that's where the most lucrative work is for some industries
yeah i know disneyland is probably a fun thing to go to
they have concentration camps, guys, this shouldn't be so complicated
don't pretend this hasn't always been them

maybe domestic opportunities wouldn't be so scarce or so underwhelming if generations of talent hadn't fled vancouver, toronto, calgary, let alone, idk, kamloops, moose jaw, saugenay, moncton for new york, chicago, seattle, los angeles
i do hurt for every person who finds themselves using their woefully brief lives honestly following their bliss and investing their effort in self-affirming life skills that have no easy-to-find market for at home. i wish i had a better answer than "that sucks but moving to austin isn't an option"
i mean there's something to be said for reappropriation, repatriation, just straight up heisting the capital from its holders and bringing it back home, sometimes that requires immersion in the awful system to extract the value
but god i just don't want to get my hands dirty like that anymore
so yeah im a fuckin jerk bitch but if i see a canadian "influencer", "content creator", heading down to, idk, vegas, disney, a film festival, kinda doesn't matter, bobbling around having fun in the states, shmoozing, mingling, engaging, regardless of how neat i thought they were before, that bridge is now burnt to me 👋🏽
and oh my god if you're influential in canadian governance and do anything other than at least start advocating for BDS from american hegemony then i just don't think you understand the existential precarity of the moment and are probably just a robber baron in mapleface
idk, ive been called an american diabolist before, and that was loooong before their elected dictator started threatening to erase entire civilizations with both the ease and, terrifyingly, the exact same level of condemnation and action as he gets when he tweets "covfefe" so by all means continue

its increasingly being proved that this isnt cynicism, just truth unburdened and unbothered by the urge to self-censor for fear of retribution from "the good ones" their appeasers and their enablers among us that have internalized their poisonous influence
i mean it sounds extreme, and i guess it is if you want, but it doesn't feel like it to me because extreme things should, idk, feel big? hard? challenging? and none of this feels confusing or complicated to me. it's all... fairly obvious?
that a country founded by bigoted zealots who had run out of european host cities open to them because they all eventually realize the puritans were fucking awful, who "settled" and then "won" through genocide and slavery enacted by the wealthiest male landownders turned into this? no fuckin shit
everything good the united states has done since it was founded have largely been accidents from the perspective of their founding systems, or through the noble and heroic ability of legitimately good humans to squeak through the cracks the shitheads in charge forgot to close, until they do
my words might ring hollow and impossible to believe at this point after everything above but i do have only love in my heart for the people. none of this is the fault or responsibility of 99% of the people alive down there right now. it's literally all concentrated in the top 1%, as was the goal
but i'm not going to be so foolish as to suggest it can be "fixed." that there is a "more perfect union" possible down there. it's maybe possible, i guess, through another two centuries of incremental change, provided they get over themselves and start making constitutional amendments again, idk
at this point i think theyve lost the luxury of being alloowed to do this the slow, complicated, grinding way. another bicentennial maybe they have a more egalitarian founding document based on the first
